houdini's suitcase

HOUDINIS SUITCASE is the latest show from acclaimed international puppet company Pickled Image. Created spring 06 in the depths of north Norway, HOUDINIS SUITCASE is a highly atmospheric piece of visual theatre that contains live performance, extraordinary puppets, ingenious objects, beautiful contraptions, exquisite lighting and a haunting soundtrack. It has a deeply moving story that contains pathos and comedy and uses a minimum of language.

On top of a towering pile of luggage in a deserted railway station an old man waits and remembers. He is Joska Maloth, one time apprentice to the great Houdini. His cases and trunks contain his past. One by one he opens them, and the smell of mothballs pervades the air. As he starts to remember, a macabre carnival of strange yet beautiful characters appear to tell his story – a story of love, loss, ageing, childhood, nights at the circus and the mud soaked trenches of the First World War”.

HOUDINIS SUITCASE is currently selling out venues across Scandinavia. The show works best in intimate venues where the audience can get up close to the set.
HOUDINIS SUITCASE is aimed at audiences aged 12 years and up and has worked extremely well in Europe with secondary school children as well as adults.
