Pickled Image was formed in October 2000 by Dik Downey and Vicky Andrews. Dik was previously performing with Green Ginger as both performer and puppet maker. He has been involved in all their productions since FRANK EINSTEIN and was last seen performing the title role in SLAPHEAD, the Demon Barber. Vicky trained at the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School and has designed costumes, sets and puppets with companies such as The Welsh National Opera and The English Touring Opera. Together they designed and built puppets for Green Gingers BAMBI, the Wilderness Years and work Extensively with The Wright Stuff Theatre of Puppets. They have been involved with LE PETIT BAZAR EROTIK, a touring festival of erotic puppetry. They have performed their Bernard shows in the UK, Holland, Belgium, Germany, France, Portugal and Norway.
Dik Downey has been involved in the entertainment business for 24 years. He has been a fire-eater, escapologist, designer, clown and a Desperate Man! He joined Green Ginger in 1994 as a performer and maker.Dik toured extensively with the company and has performed the title roll in ‘Slaphead’ Demon Barber and ‘Frank Einstein’ Rewired. He has been heavily involved in all their productions since leaving in 2000. He can be seen in Terry Gilliam’s ‘Brazil’ if you have a really good pause button! Dik is a productive ceramicist.
Vicky Andrews trained as a sculptor and theatre designer and has worked in the creative sector for 10 years. Her theatre designs have been seen in various productions from Bristol Old Vic, Welsh National Opera and Bath Ustinov Theatre. She was a Linbury finalist in 1999, and is a talented illustrator. Vicky is a very skilled puppet maker and an accomplished puppeteer.
